Materials:

I made these from a modified crochet coaster pattern.  I was tired of no one having a pattern, or none of the hair companies selling anything to cover my hair bun so that it would stay in during the day.   I have very thick, long hair.  Therefore my buns are large.  For smaller buns you could just stop a couple of rows short of the pattern and attach a smaller rubber band.  For larger buns, you could just keep increasing the pattern and add a super large rubber band, although I have not found any non pull ones so you may have to use some “by the yard” elastic.

Materials:

Worsted weight cotton ends (I used what I had left over from wash cloths, sweaters, and other projects)

20 yds should be enough

Size G or H hook depending on how loose your crochet is

Large no pull rubber band or silky ribbon if you would like to tie it and not use a rubber band

Darning Needle

Pattern:

Set Up Round:  Chain 5 (6 or 7 if you would like a bigger hole in the center), join with a slip st to first chain

Round 1:  Chain 3, (1 dc, ch 1) nine times, sl st to first chain 3 to complete round

Round 2:  Chain 2, (1 dc on top of previous dc, 2 dc in chain 1 space) all the way around.  Sl st to join

Round 3:  (to minimize holes) ch 2, (dc, 2 dc in next space) repeat around.  Slip stitch to join.

Round 3:  (more lacy look) ch 3, dc in same stitch, (chain 1,  skip 1 st, 2 dc in next st).  Repat around. sl st to join.

Round 4:  Ch 1, single crochet around in each previous stitch or chain space.

Round 5:  Attach rubber band by putting it against round 4 and running a single crochet around the rubber band.  Do not crochet in the last 2-3 crochet spaces.  This will allow you to slip the bun cover over the bun and pull the band tight, twisting it and doubling it over the bun to keep it in place.
