Chris’ Afghan

Posted by Jen on Wednesday Feb 18, 2009 Under Blankets

This is the third afghan that I crochet.  I am hoping that it will be my last as these take a lot of time to do.  This was also done in panels of double crochet (25 sts) by 20 rows each.  I then added on a 2 row border around each panel with the blue.  This is very warm, and very easy to wash.  It does get softer with each wash and hold up much better than the pink blanket and does not pill like the striped blanket.

Materials:

Size H hook, 4 balls of Carron One Pound yarn, 2 balls of Carron Simply soft

The blanket has 35 panels (5 x 7).

Becca’s Afghan

Posted by Jen on Wednesday Feb 18, 2009 Under Blankets

This was made for Becca for her new room.  I used 2 balls of Super Soft baby yarn in those HUGE balls.  It did not take as long because it was crochet in smaller panels of double crochet.  Then each panel was sewn together and a border was put all the way around the blanket.  This yarn did not get as soft as I thought it would have in the wash.  I was a bit disappointed.  I don’t think that there is any way to get acrylic to soften up.  Each panel is 25 stitches across and there are 12 total panels.

Materials:

2 balls of light worsted weight pink baby yarn Pound of Love (800 yds per ball), size G crochet hook.

Jen’s Afghan

Posted by Jen on Wednesday Feb 18, 2009 Under Blankets

This was crochet for a single sized bed.  I used 13 balls of Carron Simply Soft for this project and I think that it took FOREVER!!!  Each section of blue and pink color change was approx 1 ball, 20 rows.  I think the cast on was somewhere around 250 sts.  I had 5 balls of blue, 5 balls of pink, and 3 balls of green.  I used what I had left of a pink ball to do a chain linked/slip stitch edging on the blanket.  Simple, yet pretty.  This gets softer each time I wash it, but it did stretch out quite a bit when I first washed it.  I am not sure if it would do the same if knit.

Granny Square Bear

Posted by Jen on Wednesday Feb 18, 2009 Under Blankets

This simple bear blanket was made from several granny squares sewn together.  Below is a simple pattern.  The eyes were simple crochet rounds to form a circle and placed on the face part of the bear.  The ears were crochet as half rounds and stitched on later.  This is a quick and easy baby gift if you are looking for something last minute.

Lucky Green Socks

Posted by Jen on Tuesday Feb 17, 2009 Under Socks

I am knitting these from the “Ribbed Slipper Socks” pattern I found on Ravelry.  I am using a sport weight yarn 100% wool from Jo-Ann’s line.  Using a smaller yarn than the pattern calls for makes these socks form fitting very nicely.  I will definitely use this pattern again.  You can easily use any needle method for traditional sock knitting that you choose.  I have been working a lot with the Magic Loop method, so that is what I will be using for these socks.  I was able to knit the whole sock in 2 days.  Had I knit more per day, I could have probably knit the sock in one day.  I will start the second sock tomorrow.

Green Sock

Both of these have been finished but I gave them to a friend.  I did not take a picture of them both finished, so hopefully she can take a pic of her wearing them and send it to me soon!  So when I get that pic I will post it.  I hope to make a turtle out of the leftover yarn, but I won’t get him finished for a while, or even started.

Finally got a pic of the socks.  And would you believe that she is having me weave in all the ends….for goodness sake, they are a free pair of socks!  LOL  Anywho, here’s the socks finished.
