Expandable Cape Set
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008With pleating in the back, this cape will fit a toddler and, with pleating taken out, will fit an adult. This is a great cape for anyone to grow with!
Supplies:
100% Mercerized Cotton Reynolds Saucy Sport
1 skein = 123 yds (50g)
3 red skeins
2 yellow skeins
2 green skeins
Size 5 needles
6 sts. and 7 1/2 rows = 1 inch.
Pattern:
This is worked in raglan style from top down.
Cast on 82 sts. (6 sts. on either end are used for seed st.)
k2, p2 rib starting and ending with 2 knit sts.
Continue this for 6 rows.
Next row is a right side knit-only row.
Shaping:
First 6 sts. = seed st., k13 (place st. marker), k11 (place st. marker), k32 (place st. marker), k11 (place st. marker), k13 (place st. marker), Use last 6 sts. for seed st. border.
Continue seed st. border on each side, purl across row without increases.
Continuing in pattern, increase 2 sts. by knitting in the front and back of the st. after each st. marker. until 241 sts. on needle including border.
After increases have been made, continue knitting on right side and purl on wrong side keeping seed st. border not increasing until garment measures 18 in. or out of yarn.
Finish bottom of garment with 10 rows of k2, p2 ribbing and bind off.
On back of garment, in between last increases, st. 24 in. of leftover yarn and pull to gather.
Hat:
Using leftover yarn and size F crochet hook
Ch. 5, sl st. to join ch.
Round 1: 10 dc. around joined ch.
Round 2: 2 dc. in every dc. in previous round.
Round 3: Continuing in dc., increase every other st.
Round 4: Continuing in dc., increase every third st.
Round 5: Continuing in dc., increase every fourth st.
Continue without increases for 5 more rows.
Sl st. to join and weave in ends.
Purse:
Using leftover yarn and size F crochet hook
Ch. 5, sl st. to join ch.
Round 1: 10 sc. around joined ch.
Round 2: 2 sc. in every dc. in previous round.
Round 3: Continuing in sc., increase every other st.
Round 4: Continuing in sc., increase every third st.
Continue without increases for 15 more rows.
Dc. 1 round
Sc. 2 rounds
Sl st. to join and weave in ends.
Ch. 35 to 40 (this is used for purse drawstring)
Weave in ends of chain.
Sew in and out of dc. row so as to be able to draw purse closed.
